Lower Drewston
Description: |
This six bay building is on the site of a devon long house which had fallen into disrepair in the 1950s. Design- wise it is different from a trational longhouse but it retains the cross passage and fire place with some of the original granite walls still in place. The timber frame consists of an open hall with mezzanine on one side of the cross passage and to the other a floor with oak beams and joists creating an upstairs with interrupted tie beam trusses. The sling brace trusses spring from corbels on one side and are supported by posts on the other, creating the glazed wall on the front of the house. |
